The install, in one sitting
Choose Smarters for this viewer, and the Xtream login for Smarters
Two decisions come before any download. First the app. On a Samsung, LG or Apple screen, Smarters is the natural pick, since TiViMate is not made for them. On an Android TV or a Firestick either works: TiViMate draws a richer guide and records with its paid upgrade, while Smarters has fewer screens to get lost in, which suits someone who only wants their channels. Second, the login type. Take the Xtream Codes route over M3U, because it brings the channel list, the on-demand library and the program guide in one go.
Install it from the store that belongs to the screen
Android TV sets and Android phones get it from Google Play. On Samsung and LG it is called IPTV Smarters in the TV's own store, and Apple devices list it as IPTV Smarters Player. A Firestick has no listing, so it goes on through the Downloader app once unknown sources are allowed; the Firestick guide shows each screen. On a Windows PC or a Mac, download the installer from the developer's website. Then move the new icon to the front of the home row, where their eye goes first.
Open it and pick the Xtream Codes login
On the first launch Smarters shows its terms, which you accept to carry on. The screen after that offers a few ways to add an account: choose Login with Xtream Codes API. If a field ever asks you for a playlist URL, you have wandered onto the M3U route by mistake, so back out and choose again.
Type the three details, slowly, with the remote
The form wants four entries. The profile name only labels the account, so use one the person watching will recognize, such as Dad or Living room. Then the username and password, exactly as they sit in your WhatsApp chat; both are case sensitive, so watch the capitals on the on-screen keyboard. Last, the server URL: http:// at the start, a colon and the port number at the end, nothing after it. Check each field against the message, then tap Add User.
Let the list and the guide finish loading
Smarters now fetches the live channels, the films and series and the program guide. Channels appear quickly; the guide can need a few minutes across 25,000+ channels, so give it time. Use the wait for one setting: open Settings, then EPG, and turn on the option named Enable EPG on live TV. With it on, the title of the current program appears on screen during playback.
Set the player once so they never have to
In Settings, go into Player settings and pick the built-in player, then set its decoding to hardware. That is the right starting point on almost every device. If one particular channel stutters while the rest play smoothly, leave the global setting alone: open the player menu while that channel is on and move just that one to software decoding. The rest of the list keeps the faster setting, and whoever watches never needs to know either option exists.
Put their channels at the top
This step turns a working app into their TV. Add each channel from the list you asked for to Favorites, so they sit together in one group instead of scattered through thousands of entries; in most versions a long press on a channel offers the choice. Then open the Favorites group and check the order: the channel they start every evening with should come first. If one is not under the name they use for it, search, and ask them which one they mean.
Show the four buttons that matter, and nothing else
Sit beside them and point to the few buttons they need: the arrows to move, the center button to choose, the back button to step out of a screen, and home to reach the TV's main menu if they get lost. Say out loud what each one does inside Smarters. Leave every other button alone for now. If the remote has a key that jumps straight into another app, mention it, because pressing it by accident is the usual reason a screen suddenly looks wrong.
Leave a short card next to the TV
Write three lines on a card and prop it by the screen. One: if the picture stops, switch the device off at the wall, count to thirty, switch it back on. Two: if that fails, restart the router the same way. Three: send a WhatsApp message saying what the screen shows, to SWIVTV at +212 663 813 479 or to you. Keep the username and password off the card. The login stays in your WhatsApp chat, where it arrived, and support can talk to the person watching directly.
Hand over the remote and watch them do it once
Before you leave, switch everything off. Give them the remote and ask them to turn it on, open Smarters, find their Favorites, start a channel, change to another and come back out. Keep your hands in your lap. Wherever they hesitate is the thing to fix now: move the icon, rename the group, reorder the channels or add one more line to the card. When they can do the whole round without looking at you, the job is done.
The snags, and how to clear them
A message says the account has expired
Nothing is broken. The plan has reached its end date, and SWIVTV plans never renew by themselves. Renew from your own phone over WhatsApp and the same username and password work again within minutes; the app keeps its settings and needs no reinstall. Your mum cannot fix this alone, so note the renewal date in your calendar a week early and tell her this message means call you, not press anything.
Smarters opens but the channel list is blank
Try the gentle fix over the phone first: refresh the list, or sign out of the profile and sign in again. Still empty means a detail was mistyped, most often the port at the end of the server URL. Ask for a photo of the screen, compare it with your WhatsApp message and correct it on a video call or your next visit. If every character matches, message support, who can check the account itself.
The app keeps closing on a Firestick
On the Firestick go to Settings, Applications, Manage installed applications, choose IPTV Smarters and clear its cache. If it goes on closing after that, remove it and install a current build through Downloader; an old installation file on a newer Fire OS is a frequent cause. The cache step is easy to talk someone through by phone. The reinstall is for you, or for support over WhatsApp.
Channel names show, but the program information is empty
On the first evening this is usually the guide still loading, so leave the app open a few minutes and look again. If it stays empty, check that Enable EPG on live TV is switched on under Settings, EPG. Still blank the next day? Message support on WhatsApp with the name of one affected channel; the guide comes from the same server as the channels, so they can see what is missing.
One channel stutters while the others play fine
Move that channel alone to software decoding from the player menu. If every channel stutters, mostly in the evening, look at the connection instead: HD needs about 10 Mbps and one 4K stream a steady 25, which a TV at the far end of the house on Wi-Fi may not get. A router restart is the one safe thing to try alone. A network cable is a job for your next visit.

Not entirely. The app has to be installed and the login typed on her device, so either you do it in person or she presses the buttons while you guide her over a video call. From home you can order and pay for her plan and receive the login in your own WhatsApp, so the visit is short. Her home needs its own plan, because one account is for one household.
Does IPTV Smarters Pro cost anything?
No. The app is free on every platform it runs on. Smarters or TiViMate for a parent who just wants their channels?
